Shorter contenders (often women) have to put up with the indignity of their feet not reaching the floor, legs left dangling childishly, while contenders with larger frames have their feet firmly planted. A discreet cushion behind the sitter would push the body forward, enabling everyone to sit comfortably and confidently. This is clearly the only reason why I (at 5ft 3in) haven’t (yet) appeared on Mastermind.Mary WrennLlandenny, Monmouthshire• Surely the proper thing to do to celebrate the life and work of the late Richard Chamberlain (Report, 30 March) would be to republish Nancy Banks-Smith’s reviews of The Thorn Birds.
