A Guardian Money investigation has found that some train company websites have been overcharging younger and older travellers for journeys to a number of European destinations.We found that people aged between 12 and 25, or over 60, can end up paying substantially more than the standard adult fare for exactly the same journey, when they should typically be paying slightly less. In one case – for a journey from London to Lausanne in Switzerland via Paris – the quoted “senior” fare was twice the amount a standard adult traveller would pay: £319 compared with £163.
