If you have received a letter from HMRC saying you have underpaid tax and are required to pay more, want to challenge the amount that has been requested, or want to make a formal complaint, you can use the following template lettersLatest: HMRC tax error could affect up to 15 millionThe Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG) has drafted the following template letters which you can use to write to HMRC if you think you have been unfairly asked to pay more tax or are eligible to have the tax claim written off.The LITRG advises that it is dangerous to try and draft letters without knowing the context, so although it cannot make any guarantees – and if you use them, you do so at your own risk – the letters might give you an idea of what to write depending on why you have received a letter, and how to present your points.
