Should I sell or rent out my flat as it would not suit our needs if my partner moved in?


We might rent a property together, so I could have equity for a future purchase or become a landlordQ I am nearing the end of the fixed-rate deal for the mortgage on my flat. My partner and I are planning on moving in together sometime in the next 12 months. My flat doesn’t suit both of our needs, so we would probably need to rent a new property together. Am I better off selling my flat and having the equity (and existing cash savings) ready to put down as a deposit on a new home, either jointly or independently, in a year or two; or should I seek to rent out my flat? I don’t have much knowledge of agents’ fees, and other costs and taxes associated with renting it out; what can I expect?
