11 July 1968: Revenue is being eaten up by administrative costs rather than subsidising public transportMore than £8,500,000 has been put into parking meters by British motorists since the first scheme was introduced in Westminster in 1958. The Royal Automobile Club, which carried out a survey into the scheme, said yesterday that £6 millions of the takings had been eaten up by overheads and administrative costs.
