We live in a house that we’ve had for 25 years and our interest-only mortgage is due for repayment in six months’ time. Our lenders are being very decent about a possible short-term extension. But our plan of getting a remortgage in my wife’s name (she’s young enough to get a repayment mortgage) has come a cropper. Nobody, it seems, will give her a mortgage without me being on the mortgage too. But I’m 64, ill and have an IVA cleared about 13 years ago. Because of my age and poor credit history, I believe any joint applications will fail. If she were buying a property on her own, there would be no problem.I simply don’t know what to do.
