The couple standing in front of the desk stare blankly at her. “We get very excited when we see new passports,” she confides to them, having recovered her composure and waved the passport over her scanner. “The problem with this one is it doesn’t work.”She rattles off a few questions about the couple’s holiday itinerary, keys some details into a small, ink-splattered keyboard, rubber-stamps the passports with a flourish and waves them on their way.
