Many wealthy Malaysians are keen to purchase an overseas property in the second semester of 2015, with Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and the United Kingdom being the top four investment destinations, according to a study by PropertyGuru.
Despite the softer ringgit and other negative external factors, 75 percent of such respondents expressed interest in buying offshore real estate.
“This represents almost no change compared to the first half of 2015 where 76 percent respondents intended to buy private apartments/or condominiums overseas,” it said.
The survey also revealed the most important reasons for investing in properties abroad: 56 percent of the respondents polled said they intend to buy overseas homes so they can lease it out, 53 percent target high capital appreciation, while 46 percent wanted a better environment to live in and for their retirement.
“Their children’s future education also remained a top factor at 36 percent,” it added.
PropertyGuru’s latest “Malaysia Property Market Sentiment” was conducted in partnership with Added Value Saffron Hill, a Singapore-based research agency, and was released in March.
