Chusan palms love it here. They just don’t like it by the seasideYou know when someone says something so silly that it sticks with you for years? It’s the small, nonsensical statements that somehow get lodged in your memory, or at least mine. I once heard an architect slate a horticulturist’s planting scheme because it contained Chusan palms. “Palms just won’t grow in Britain!” they exclaimed. “You see them on the seafront and they look awful.”This statement was far from a one-off, in fact I am forever hearing it and it irks me every time.
