It’s the small, nonsensical statements that somehow get lodged in your memory, or at least mine. I once heard an architect slate a horticulturist’s planting scheme because it contained Chusan palms. “Palms just won’t grow in Britain!” they exclaimed. “You see them on the seafront and they look awful.”This statement was far from a one-off, in fact I am forever hearing it and it irks me every time.
