\nThe freeholder has rejected a surveyor\u2019s valuation and seems to be taking advantage of us Q My husband and I jointly own a one-bedroom flat in Greater London on a long lease. There is a loft space above the flat, which is only accessible from our flat but isn\u2019t included in the lease.We had a baby earlier this year, and approached the freeholder to ask if they would be willing for us to purchase the lease of the loft space, with the view of making it into a second bedroom. At the time, they said that we would need to obtain planning permission and then instruct a surveyor to value the space. They refused to engage in negotiations until we had the expert report, and said this was for the protection of both parties. Continue reading…
