\nThe local authorities recently took ownership of Raffles Country Club\u2019s land despite the possible postponement of the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail (HSR), reported TODAYonline.
\nThe government \u201ctook site possession of Raffles Country Club\u2019s land on 1 August 2018\u201d. But a temporary license has been granted to the club from 1 August 2018 to 31 January 2019 so it can use some of the existing facilities there including the clubhouse to \u201cfacilitate the winding down of its operations and disposal of assets,\u201d said a spokesperson from the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).

\nThe Singapore government had said in January 2017 that aside from Jurong Country Club, it will acquire Raffles Country Club to make way for the HSR\u2019s facilities. The site will also be used for the western depot of the upcoming Cross Island Line (CRL).
\nOpened in 1988, Raffles Country Club is one of Singapore\u2019s oldest golf courses. Raffles Country Club\u2019s address is 450 Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim. However, the authorities took control of it 10 years before the end of its 30-year lease in October 2028.
\nMalaysia\u2019s new federal government also announced last month that they want to delay the construction of the HSR due to the country\u2019s high debt of over RM1 trillion (S$335 billion). Initially, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in June that the mega project would be scrapped, but he later clarified that they intend to postpone it so that they won\u2019t have to pay compensation to Singapore.
\nFurthermore, Malaysian economic affairs minister Azmin Ali said on Tuesday (31 July) that official talks with Singapore over the fate of the HSR could be held in \u201cearly August\u201d as they\u2019re quite busy with parliamentary matters.
