\nNeil Macehiter says it will make recruiting staff harder, and Stewart Pimbley on the betrayal of the London building\u2019s pastThe response of Stephen Clark, spokesman for planning on London\u2019s Camden council, to the marketing of Queen Mary\u2019s House as potential luxury flats (NHS privately planning to turn London hospital building into block of luxury \u00a310m flats, 19\u00a0May) is mealy-mouthed to say the least. His concerns should extend beyond the fact that the hospital has not applied for planning permission and that the council \u201cwouldn\u2019t want to see just luxury homes on the site\u201d.With the NHS struggling to recruit and retain key staff \u2013 not least because of the lack of local affordable accommodation \u2013 the council should be making its opposition to the Royal Free\u2019s plans clear, or demanding that developers are required to replace the lost accommodation at an equivalent rent in the locality.
