\nThe government will spend up to HK$550 million (US$70 million) of taxpayers\u2019 money in the next two decades for more generous rehousing and compensation terms to northern New Territories villagers forced to make way for new town developments.
\nSecretary for Development Michael Wong Wai-lun said the move was part of the government\u2019s \u201cpeople-oriented philosophy\u201d and more than 8,000 households would benefit.
