Essex University\u2019s Alun Withey has discovered that Victorians were the masters of pretentious job titles, scouring periodicals to discover booksellers describing themselves as \u201cbibliopoles\u201d, journalists as \u201ccouranteers\u201d and wigmakers as \u201ctripocoptontic perruquiers\u201d.
