\nPier Guerci, former president of the US division of\u00a0Loro Piana, was not ready to give up his Fifth Avenue penthouse apartment.
\nHe had bought a warren of nine maid\u2019s rooms on top of a pre-war building in 2000, gutted the original layout,\u00a0and then spent eight years building a duplex overlooking Central Park.
