After all, British Gas and the rest want to make more money out of us, not less, don’t they? But energy companies are sitting on thousands of pounds in largely unclaimed grants and benefits \u2013 going well beyond the free energy-saving lightbulbs that many already dish out to households.Energy companies must also offer grants to enable householders to make their homes more energy-efficient in order to hit carbon emission reduction targets under a government initiative, the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (Cert), launched in April last year.
