This is in line with our sustainability goals under the 11th Malaysia Plan and it is essential for us to engage the private sector as key influencers to ensure low-emission developments.”
More: Asia gets a green star in global sustainability benchmark
She added that the collaboration between CIDB and REHDA would be an example of how the private and public sector could work together to push the government’s green growth agenda.
“By encouraging the adoption of MyCREST, developers will consider green practices at all stages of their developments and mandate sustainable practices from a top-down approach. Ultimately, this will help to reduce the level of carbon emissions generated by the construction industry in Malaysia.”
MyCREST is a sustainability rating tool introduced by the Ministry of Works through the Public Works Department (JKR) and CIDB, which aims to quantify and reduce carbon emissions in the construction sector. Through the adoption of MyCREST, industry players including developers will be guided to incorporate greater environmentally sustainable practices in their projects.
REHDA members including its Sabah and Sarawak associates have pledged 20 of their projects to be assessed with MyCREST as part of the pilot programme to promote sustainable development of Malaysia’s cities, buildings and homes. Some of the projects include S P Setia Berhad’s corporate headquarters in Setia Alam, IJM Land’s Waterside Residence in Penang as well as Damansara Uptown One’s Uptown 1 project in Petaling Jaya.
More: How sustainability will drive Asian markets to succeed in a greener future
Datuk Rosnah further explained that the collaboration between CIDB and REHDA would stimulate greater focus on sustainability and encourage the construction of more green developments in the country.
“One of the pressing challenges that need to be addressed is the lack of compliance to sustainability standards in Malaysia. In fact, less than 2 percent of buildings and infrastructures in Malaysia are rated with a sustainability tool. We believe that the level of carbon emissions from developments can be quantified and reduced if the take-up rate is higher,” she said.
As part of the collaboration, CIDB and REHDA will initiate regular awareness programmes to increase the understanding of the MyCREST green rating tools among developers and key industry players.
GreenRE, a wholly owned green initiative by REHDA, will also organise training sessions on a quarterly basis to provide accreditation to qualified green rating professionals. Furthermore, the collaboration also seeks for greater exchange of expertise and knowledge on sustainability between CIDB and REHDA.
The full story was originally published on PropertyGuru.com.my on 9 March 2016.

Source : property-report.com
Read more…Two of Malaysia’s leading building associations make a green pact

CIDB and REHDA collaborate to promote sustainability Image credit: Asiagreenbuildings.com Malaysian developers are being urged...

[1

post-7542","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-property-news
https://www.siamlandbank.com/propertynews/property-news/malaysias-developer-lending-scheme-market-saviour-or-crisis-bringer/
\r Analysts and lawmakers are split over a proposal to licence developers as money lenders Sunrise in Kuala Lumpur. jamesteohart / Shutterstock As more and more units linger on the market, the Malaysian government is in the midst of passing a potentially seminal policy that could either unburden the property…
https://www.siamlandbank.com/propertynews/property-news/overwhelming-response-seen-at-malaysia-property-show/
\r Singapore-based buyers and investors had the opportunity to interact with Malaysian developers at the show.
