\nThe warm summer has produced a bumper crop of arachnids creeping into our homes. Britain\u2019s eight-legged beasts can give you a fright, and some can even bite \u2013 but are any really dangerous?\u2019Tis the season when our lives become festooned with spiders. The humungous webs of plump orb-weaver spiders block our path outside, while indoors we are greeted by amorous male house spiders, which are not seeking to terrify us but simply searching for a mate. Some experts suggest this year\u2019s warm summer will produce a bumper crop, although \u201cinvasions\u201d of \u201csex-crazed\u201d spiders are recycled every autumn by media arachnophobes.We have no deadly spiders in Britain, but are there any we should be scared of? \u201cThe likelihood of getting bitten by a spider is extremely rare,\u201d says Andrew Whitehouse of the charity Buglife. \u201cThe vast majority of our British spiders are too small \u2013 they can\u2019t get their jaws wide apart enough to nip you.\u201d Continue reading…
