\nCity Developments Limited (CDL) distributed over 1.5 tonnes of fortified rice to some 300 construction workers on Sunday (1 October) at the CDL 5-Star Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Awards 2017 held at the Singapore University of Technology and Design.
\nAccording to the World Food Programme, fortification increases the content of essential vitamins and minerals in rice to improve its nutritional quality.
\n\u201cFor CDL, the safety and well-being of workers have always been a priority,\u201d said CDL\u2019s Group General Manager Chia Ngiang Hong. \u201cBy distributing fortified rice to the workers, we hope to introduce them to a healthier and more nutritious eating option.\u201d
\nDuring the event, seven of CDL\u2019s builders were also presented with the CDL 5-Star EHS Awards from guest-of-honour Sam Tan, Minister of State for Manpower.
\nEstablished in 2005, the annual awards aim to recognise builders and workers who have excelled in their EHS performance.
\nAbout 1,600 construction workers are currently employed by builders at five CDL worksites.\u00a0
