\nBritish house price growth picked up last month, underpinned by strong employment growth and a shortage of properties on the \u00admarket, according to the country\u2019s biggest mortgage lender.
\nThe average price of a house rose 1.1 per cent to \u00a3222,293 (US$293,029) in August, Halifax said.
