{"id":62753,"date":"2017-08-04T10:52:34","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T03:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/construction-firm-fined-130000-for-safety-lapses\/"},"modified":"2017-08-04T10:58:45","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T03:58:45","slug":"construction-firm-fined-130000-for-safety-lapses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/construction-firm-fined-130000-for-safety-lapses\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction firm fined $130,000 for safety lapses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#013;<br \/>\nRepeated safety lapses were uncovered at the Hillview Peak worksite on three separate occasions.<br \/>\nKingsford Construction has been fined $130,000 for multiple, repeated safety lapses at its Upper Bukit Timah site, revealed the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).<br \/>\nThe construction firm was carrying out construction works at the Hillview Peak condominium, reported Channel NewsAsia.<br \/>\nIn June 2016, MOM\u2019s Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate uncovered the same safety lapses committed by the firm during two previous inspections in 2014 and 2015.<br \/>\nThe lapses, among others, included open sides that were not guarded by barriers or guardrails, staircases with no handrails and staircases that had no emergency lighting in case of a power failure.<br \/>\nKingsford was issued a stop-work order (SWO) and fined $10,000 in 2014. For the same lapses uncovered in 2015, the firm was fined $19,000 and issued a partial SWO.<br \/>\nWith its \u201crepeated failures and recalcitrant attitude\u201d, the firm was charged under the Workplace Safety and Health Act for its failure to \u201ctake reasonably practicable measures to ensure the safety and health of its employees\u201d, the ministry said.<br \/>\nMOM\u2019s director of Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate Chan Yew Kwong explained that the ministry \u201csought a heavy penalty because of Kingsford\u2019s blatant disregard for safety and its repeated failures to comply with our regulatory requirements\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cCompanies must address all safety failures identified during a MOM inspection and put in place effective measures to prevent recurrence.
