I\u2019d borrow my mum\u2019s car, set off from the house where we\u2019d lived since I was five and drive to another house two miles up the road. I\u2019d turn the corner into the cul-de-sac, see the pairs of similarly constructed, semi-detached houses, all pebbledash and beige bricks, and as I\u2019d get to the end, I\u2019d be holding my breath.There it was on the left: my childhood home.
