\nSLC put more than 33,000 people on to a \u2018non-compliance interest rate\u2019 of 3% for \u2018losing touch\u2019 with companyThe Student Loans Company has been criticised for adding more than \u00a38m to student debt through \u201cpenalty interest\u201d on tens of thousands of loans in the last financial year.Figures seen by the Guardian showed that the SLC put more than 33,000 people in England and Wales on to a \u201cnon-compliance interest rate\u201d of 3% for failing to respond to requests for information or \u201closing touch\u201d with the company.
