\nBody representing UK\u2019s elite universities says new 6.1% rate is \u2018very high\u2019 and out of touch with commercial lendingThe Russell Group, which represents the UK\u2019s most prestigious universities, has joined calls to make funding fairer for students, urging the government to look again at the 6.1% interest rate on loans due to come into force this September.Dr Tim Bradshaw, the Russell Group\u2019s acting director, described the rate as \u201cvery high\u201d and \u201cout of touch\u201d with commercial lending rates. \u201cA reassessment here now seems highly appropriate as inflation starts to return,\u201d he said.
