{"id":5474,"date":"2016-02-23T07:00:59","date_gmt":"2016-02-23T00:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/sorry-no-more-strange-buildings-in-china\/"},"modified":"2016-02-23T07:36:34","modified_gmt":"2016-02-23T00:36:34","slug":"sorry-no-more-strange-buildings-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/sorry-no-more-strange-buildings-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Sorry, no more strange buildings in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#013;<br \/>\nOdd-shaped buildings are now banned<br \/>\n\u201cBig Trousers\u201d, as the CCTV headquarters is nicknamed, may be among the last of strange-looking towers in Chinese cities (Photo by Philippe Ruault)<br \/>\nChina has been known to produce a significant number of tall towers in the last few years, including some of the most unusual architecture in the world, but one person isn\u2019t a fan \u2013 the country\u2019s very own President Xi Jinping, who famously reminded developers in 2014 that such projects reflected \u201ca lack of cultural confidence.\u201d<br \/>\nAnd so now a directive has been officially released to remind builders and urban planners in China to be more mindful of their future projects and to generate less waste.<br \/>\n\u201cBizarre architecture that is not economical, functional, aesthetically pleasing or environmentally friendly will be forbidden,\u201d China\u2019s State Council announced\u00a0this week.<br \/>\nMore: Shanghai Tower is now the world\u2019s second-tallest building<br \/>\nThe exact definition of \u201cbizarre\u201d architecture is still up for debate, but the council is hoped to release a definitive set of criteria to follow up the new policy, Liu Shilin, head of the Institute of Urban Science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, told the South China Morning Post.<br \/>\nIn addition to banning strange-looking buildings in the future, the new state guidelines also addresses the rapid urbanisation of major Chinese cities on the mainland and the problems associated with it, including pollution, traffic congestion and public safety.<br \/>\nThe Chinese government\u2019s guideline calls for stricter punishments for anyone who disregards urban planning regulations, and suggests the use of remote satellite sensing to pinpoint such violators in the next five years.<br \/>\nMore: Why Shenzhen is leading China\u2019s revival<br \/>\nPrefabricated building materials are also being encouraged to reduce urban waste.
