\nThe Repair Caf\u00e9 names the seven easiest things you can fix yourself (and that includes laptops), saving you a small fortune and benefiting the environmentEvery year British households chuck out \u00a3800-worth of electrical goods, nearly half of which goes straight into landfill. Yet many of those items \u2013 as well as wonky bits of furniture \u2013 suffer a premature death that could be avoided with a simple repair. Trouble is, most householders have no confidence in their ability to fix things, and have been (profitably) trained to dispose of goods and buy new. But householders in many parts of the UK can now find a Repair Caf\u00e9 where, over tea and biscuits, volunteer \u201cfix-perts\u201d give them the knowledge to help themselves in future.Martine Postma launched the concept in Amsterdam in late 2009, and there are now 1,256 Repair Caf\u00e9s around the world. They are all staffed by volunteers and designed to be free meeting spaces where visitors can bring their broken items, or just pop in and browse the selection of DIY books.
