\nReport suggests Ministry of Justice may not have the authority to introduce the charges of up to \u00a320,000 per estateGovernment plans to raise \u00a3300m by increasing probate fees \u2013 payable when claiming inheritances \u2013 may not be legally enforceable, a parliamentary committee has said. A report by the joint committee on statutory instruments has suggested that the Ministry of Justice may not have the authority to introduce the charges of up to \u00a320,000 per estate.The MoJ has defended the charges on the grounds that its is \u201cfair and proportionate\u201d that those who can afford to use the courts should make a greater contribution to their overall funding.
