\nAfter years on the road, Lou Thorpe bought her first home \u2013 and furnished it all for just \u00a32,000, says Karen WilsonHaving spent her 30s working abroad as a tour guide, Lou Thorpe felt it was time to put down roots and buy her first property. \u201cI had no permanence,\u201d says Thorpe, 45, now a charity worker. \u201cI was tired of being in a different hotel every night and needed something that was mine.\u201d Six years ago she found the perfect place \u2013 a two-bedroom 1930s semi in Low Fell, a suburb of Gateshead, where she grew up.Even the street name, Home Avenue, seemed perfect as I\u00a0hadn\u2019t had a home for eight years Continue reading…
