\nFrom debt collectors threatening a disabled woman, to a bill demanding more than \u00a350,000, consumers are paying a high price for chaotic accounting, as Anna Tims reportsAn elderly man has been told that he owes \u00a351,000 in the latest example of the problems faced by vulnerable consumers battling energy suppliers. He told of the five-figure bill he received from Co-operative Energy, despite previous assurances that his account was in credit.Eventually he enlisted the help of his daughter, Amanda Weston, to sort out the mess. \u201cDad was asked to increase his monthly direct debits after a new meter was fitted in 2011,\u201d she says. \u201cAfter I involved the ombudsman, \u00a3450 in credit and compensation was paid, but in March bills began rising again.
