\nWentworth Woodhouse, believed to have been the template for Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice, to be saved as \u2018a key part of northern heritage\u2019As part of Wednesday\u2019s autumn statement, the chancellor Philip Hammond has announced that \u00a37.6m will be allocated to saving the stately home Wentworth Woodhouse in Rotherham, the property believed to have inspired Jane Austen\u2019s Pemberley in her novel Pride and Prejudice.The Grade-I listed building is Europe\u2019s largest private home, sitting on 82 acres of land and believed to have more than 350 rooms. It took 25 years to build in the 1700s and once employed 1,000 staff, including a bear keeper and a \u201cstate bed maker\u201d. Continue reading…
