\nIf convicted, she faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
\nThe police have arrested a 41-year-old woman for suspected involvement in several rental scam cases, reported Channel NewsAsia.
\nIn a statement released on Wednesday (26 October), the police revealed that they received various complaints of rental scam cases this month in Toa Payoh, in which victims responded to Facebok advertisements and paid rental deposits of up to $700. Thereafter, the suspect became uncontactable.
\nThe suspect will be charged in court today (27 October). If convicted, she faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
\nWith this, the police have urged potential renters to ensure that they are dealing with the unit\u2019s rightful owner or an accredited real estate agent. They can also search for similar ads placed elsewhere to determine if the listing is a scam.
\nThey also warned the public against paying rent or rental deposits to a salesperson. Payments should be made directly to the property\u2019s owner, and only after the tenancy agreement has been signed by all parties, said the police.
