\nAfter Unite Students charged \u00a35,600 for one academic year, regular painting of student accommodation is surely routine maintenance, not an extra cleaning costIn July our son checked out of a hall of residence in Coventry owned by Unite Students. Now the company is trying to deduct \u00a3152 from the \u00a3250 deposit, which we paid in advance, for \u201crepainting\u201d the room and covering marks around the desk area.It charged a staggering \u00a35,600 for one academic year\u2019s use and we had to supply bedding, kitchen equipment (other than white goods), plus crockery, cutlery etc. Can Unite legally deduct this without any clear proof of damage or wrongdoing relating to our son\u2019s use of the room?
