\nThe vote to leave the EU has seen annuity rates fall sharply. But would-be retirees still have other options Margaret Lawson is relieved that she bought an annuity in April before the rates sank any further. It was an astute decision by the 66-year-old dairy farmer. Since the vote at the end of June that the UK should leave the European union, rates have dropped by 3.5%.\u201cI only had a small personal pension of around \u00a316,000,\u201d she says. With this, she bought a Prudential annuity through investment adviser Hargreaves Lansdown, which pays her \u00a375 a month. Lawson acknowledges that this is not a lot, but she is not relying on it alone to fund her retirement. \u201cIt will help towards basic bills,\u201d she says. Continue reading…
