{"id":20888,"date":"2016-07-19T12:25:22","date_gmt":"2016-07-19T05:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/singapore-malaysia-to-sign-high-speed-rail-agreement-today\/"},"modified":"2016-07-26T15:41:20","modified_gmt":"2016-07-26T08:41:20","slug":"singapore-malaysia-to-sign-high-speed-rail-agreement-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/singapore-malaysia-to-sign-high-speed-rail-agreement-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Singapore, Malaysia to sign high-speed rail agreement today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#013;<br \/>\nThe signing of the MOU for the HSR project is seen as a significant milestone.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian counterpart, Najib Razak, are set to meet today (19 July) in Putrajaya to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the construction of the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail (HSR) project.<br \/>\nThe agreement will be signed by the city-state\u2019s Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan, while Malaysia will be represented by Dato\u2019 Abdul Rahman Dahlan, the Minister in charge of Malaysia\u2019s Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Housing Ministry.<br \/>\nAccording to a statement issued by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office Singapore, \u201cthe signing of the MOU is a significant milestone and testament to our close bilateral cooperation (with Malaysia)\u201d.<br \/>\nThis is an important infrastructure project for both governments, and their commitment to undertake this massive development is a reflection of the efforts to continuously improve their strong relationship, the statement said.<br \/>\nThe Straits Times reported that the Malaysian portion of the proposed 350km rail line will start at Bandar Malaysia, which is around 3km from Kuala Lumpur\u2019s central business district.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Singapore\u2019s terminal will be located at Jurong East, which will form part of the Jurong Lake District, the city-state\u2019s second financial district.<br \/>\nLast week, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) launched a Request for Proposal (RFP), inviting multi-disciplinary teams to submit master plan proposals for the area.<br \/>\nOver the weekend, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai told The Star that the HSR project\u2019s tender is expected to commence \u201cwithin a year\u2019s time\u201d.<br \/>\nOnce it is operational, the travel time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will be reduced to just 1.5 hours from four hours by car.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen completed, the HSR will boost connectivity, strengthen economic ties and forge closer people-to-people linkages,\u201d added the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nRomesh Navaratnarajah, Senior Editor at PropertyGuru, edited this story.
