Just to add to this interesting list, the USS also has holdings in Japan Tobacco, Imperial Tobacco and Philip Morris. Other non-tobacco investments include Halliburton and Monsanto. Also,\u00a0according to the Heathrow website, the USS owns 10% of Heathrow Airport Holdings Limited.Amanda RoseLondon\u2022 Your correspondent (Letters, 1 June) decries the assumption of crossword compiler Brendan that \u201cbottle\u201d is cockney rhyming slang for \u201ccourage\u201d. The clue does not actually suggest anywhere that the cockneys are to blame. Whether the compiler meant that or not, the OED says the use of \u201cbottle\u201d for \u201ccourage, spirit, guts\u201d, especially in the phrase \u201cto lose one\u2019s bottle\u201d, has been in use since at least 1958, and probably derives from the term \u201cno bottle\u201d meaning \u201cno good\u201d or \u201cuseless\u201d, which was itself in use in 1846.Dr Myrvin Francis ChesterNorthampton Continue reading…
