\nBrave the chill to spend a few hours tidying your patch and cleaning tools \u2013 it will help you focus on your plans for the year aheadI\u2019m sure I\u2019m not alone in feeling reluctant to head out into the garden right now. Despite imbibing the New Year\u2019s message that now\u2019s the time to\u00a0resolve to be a better grower, the middle of winter is actually an uninspiring time to make gardening resolutions. But while these short days\u00a0are seldom motivating, we humans fare better if we spend a\u00a0little \u00a0time outside during the daylight\u00a0hours\u00a0\u2013 so here are some things I\u2019ll be doing in the veg patch\u00a0over the coming weeks.I\u2019m certainly not a neat grower in the summer but now that much has died back, I indulge my more pedantic side and do some tidying. I try to be very intentional about this \u2013 the leaves I gather are swept off the path and moved on to the perennial beds or piled up to make leaf mould, and any stems that I cut back won\u2019t be the hollow kind that might be housing overwintering insects \u2013 so that I won\u2019t unintentionally damage my little ecosystem.
