\nThe former chancellor does not want to see the entire scheme stopped but says that the capital is an ‘overheated market’Former chancellor Lord Lawson has called for an end to Help to Buy in London’s property market, arguing that this could be done by bringing the threshold for eligible properties down to \u00a3300,000. Lawson is the second former Tory chancellor to warn about the potential effects of George Osborne’s policy, after Lord Lamont said there was a danger it could encourage people to take on too much debt.Speaking to Total Politics magazine, Lawson said he did not want to see the whole scheme stopped, but that he believed it should be ended in the capital, where housing does not need a boost. “What I would like to see is not so much it being turned off, but I would like to see the threshold brought down from \u00a3600,000 to, say, \u00a3300,000, so that, in effect, it would cease to operate in London, which is an overheated market,” he said.
