\nChusan palms love it here. They just don\u2019t like it by the seasideYou know when someone says something so silly that it sticks with you for years? It\u2019s the small, nonsensical statements that somehow get lodged in your memory, or at least mine. I once heard an architect slate a horticulturist\u2019s planting scheme because it contained Chusan palms. \u201cPalms just won\u2019t grow in Britain!\u201d they exclaimed. \u201cYou see them on the seafront and they look awful.\u201dThis statement was far from a one-off, in fact I am forever hearing it and it irks me every time.
