{"id":120608,"date":"2021-06-24T01:25:19","date_gmt":"2021-06-23T18:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/bca-recognises-new-accreditation-schemes-for-managing-agents\/"},"modified":"2021-07-18T17:03:30","modified_gmt":"2021-07-18T10:03:30","slug":"bca-recognises-new-accreditation-schemes-for-managing-agents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/bca-recognises-new-accreditation-schemes-for-managing-agents\/","title":{"rendered":"BCA recognises new accreditation schemes for managing agents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Singapore-condo.original.jpg?resize=740%2C370\" width=\"740\" height=\"370\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\">&#013;<br \/>\nThe Association of Property and Facility Managers (APFM), as well as the Association of Strata Managers (ASM) accreditation schemes have been recognised by BCA in a bid to raise the industry standards of managing agents.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\nIn a bid to help the industry raise the standards of managing agents (MAs) that manages the operational and administrative tasks for Management Corporate Strata Titles (MCSTs), the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has recognised two new accreditation schemes for MAs that were introduced by the Association of Property and Facility Managers (APFM) as well as the Association of Strata Managers (ASM).<br \/>\nBCA will issue ASM and APFM with a Certificate of Recognition that requires renewal every three years.<br \/>\nIn a release issued on Wednesday (23 June), BCA said the recognition is part of its efforts \u201cto support the industry bodies in raising professionalism and improving competencies of MAs at both the individual and firm levels\u201d.<br \/>\nRelated article:\u00a0Condo AGM: 4 Reasons Why You Should Be More Involved<br \/>\nIt added that MAs can obtain accreditation by going through a structured training programme, which covers areas like the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act (BMSMA) framework, building services, application of the BMSMA as well as communication and office administration.<br \/>\n\u201cThe training will equip MAs with the capabilities to carry out duties professionally and provide sound advice to MCSTs,\u201d noted BCA.<br \/>\nSince the training programme commenced in June last year, over 300 MAs have completed the training and met the criteria to be accredited.<br \/>\nMA firms can also be accredited if they have a sufficient number of accredited staff.<br \/>\n\u201cTo date, 16 MA firms have trained the minimum number of staff required for accreditation,\u201d said BCA.<br \/>\nBCA Commissioner of Buildings Chin Chi Leong revealed that Singapore has more than 3,500 MCSTs, of which 75% engage MAs to run their estates.<br \/>\n\u201cBCA recognises the need for competent MAs and has worked with both APFM and ASM to develop and recognise a more structured framework to train and upskill MAs in the industry.
