{"id":120545,"date":"2021-07-07T03:16:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T20:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/about-4800-vacant-rental-flats-available-for-allocation-to-new-tenants\/"},"modified":"2021-07-18T17:03:03","modified_gmt":"2021-07-18T10:03:03","slug":"about-4800-vacant-rental-flats-available-for-allocation-to-new-tenants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/about-4800-vacant-rental-flats-available-for-allocation-to-new-tenants\/","title":{"rendered":"About 4,800 vacant rental flats available for allocation to new tenants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/HDB-flats-in-Tampines.jpg?resize=740%2C370\" width=\"740\" height=\"370\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\">&#013;<br \/>\nHowever, successful applicants will have to face longer waiting times of about six months, compared to an average of three months during the last five years as sprucing works have slowed down due to manpower crunch.\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Housing and Development Board (HDB) has about 4,800 vacant rental flats available for allocation to new tenants, revealed the Ministry of National Development (MND) in Parliament on Tuesday (6 July).<br \/>\nOf these, more than 50% \u201cneed to be spruced up before they can be let out\u201d.<br \/>\nHowever, the pace of sprucing works has been slower due to the severe manpower crunch facing the construction industry.<br \/>\n\u201cThis had led to longer waiting times for rental flats,\u201d said MND in its written response to Member of Parliament Chua Kheng Wee Louis\u2019 question on the number of vacant HDB rental flats.<br \/>\nThe ministry shared that \u201cthe number of approved HDB rental flat applicants on the waiting list has increased from an average of 660 in the past five years to 1,500 now\u201d.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, successful applicants will have to face longer waiting times of about six months, compared to an average of three months during the last five years.<br \/>\nThis comes as some application zones and flat types have higher demand and a more limited supply.<br \/>\nSuggested read:\u00a0Guide to Upgrading from an HDB Rental Flat to Owning an HDB Flat<br \/>\n\u201cEven though the number of vacant flats exceeds the number of applicants on the waiting list at the overall level, applicants need to be matched to the flat type and location that they applied for,\u201d explained MND.<br \/>\nIt added that HDB is looking at measures to ramp up sprucing works and facilitate key collections as quickly as possible.<br \/>\n\u201cFor applicants with urgent housing needs, such as medical grounds or other extenuating circumstances, HDB will prioritise allocating a flat to them,\u201d said the ministry.<br \/>\nIn fact, about a third of last year\u2019s successful rental applicants were given priority allocation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nLooking for a property in Singapore?
