\nLocal firms in the built environment sector have been recognised for their successful collaboration in expanding as well as strengthening the city-state\u2019s foothold in the overseas market.
\nThe Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on Friday (28 August) has given 36 local firms the inaugural SGBuilds Award for 18 international projects.
\nThe SGBuilds Award is divided into three categories \u2013 developer, consultant and builders \u2013 with the top firm in each category receiving the SGBuilds Star Award.

\n\u201cIt has been almost three years since we launched the Construction Industry Transformation Map in October 2017. Since then, we have worked towards fulfilling our vision of an advanced and integrated sector; with progressive and collaborative firms offering good jobs for Singaporeans. The SGBuilds award is a good recognition of industry efforts in fulfilling this vision through internationalisation in a collaborative manner,\u201d said BCA CEO Hugh Lim.
\n\u201cWe hope that these awards will inspire other Singapore firms across the entire built environment value chain to consider how to pool their capabilities and resources to venture into new markets overseas.\u201d
\nTW-Asia Consultants bagged the SGBuilds Star Award in the consultant category for its eight-storey resort at Palau Island, Republic of Palau.
\nSet for completion next year, the project \u201cadopted a holistic solution based on BCA\u2019s Green Mark scheme, and incorporated environmental best practices in water conservation, waste management energy efficiency, renewable energy, drainage systems and preservation of the surrounding environment and ecosystem\u201d.
\nTW-Asia Director Maey Leow revealed that the project had won the hearts of the locals, as validated by a survey done with neighbouring residents.
\n\u201cWe are delighted with this outcome and it bears testament to the team\u2019s vision to create an inclusive and ethical development. It will set the stage for future growth opportunities.\u201d

\nCapitaLand\u2019s partnership with L&W started in 2009 when it appointed a joint venture between two Singapore construction-related firms, Lee Kim Tah and Woh Hup Holdings, to develop Zenith building within International Tech Park Chennai.
\nSince then, L&W and CapitaLand\u2019s partnership has gone \u201cfrom strength to strength with several CapitaLand International Tech Park developments in major cities across India\u201d.

\nMeanwhile, Utracon Overseas clinched the SGBuilds Star Award (Builder) category for a six-storey building the developer constructed for the National Bank of Cambodia.
\nTheir successful collaboration enabled them to win a third project from the National Bank of Cambodia.
\n\u201cBeing able to venture out internationally is already challenging. On top of that, constructing a sensitive and secured project for a well-established client is something that many would not take on,\u201d said Khoo Jyh Hao, Director at Utracon Overseas.
