{"id":114748,"date":"2020-03-06T11:06:58","date_gmt":"2020-03-06T04:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/expansion-of-cycling-path-network-to-finish-2-years-ahead-of-schedule-to-cost-over-1bil\/"},"modified":"2020-03-06T12:04:04","modified_gmt":"2020-03-06T05:04:04","slug":"expansion-of-cycling-path-network-to-finish-2-years-ahead-of-schedule-to-cost-over-1bil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/expansion-of-cycling-path-network-to-finish-2-years-ahead-of-schedule-to-cost-over-1bil\/","title":{"rendered":"Expansion of cycling path network to finish 2 years ahead of schedule, to cost over $1bil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#013;<br \/>\nCycling paths will be first built on towns that \u201ccurrently lack cycling paths or have many active mobility device users\u201d.<br \/>\nThe expansion of Singapore\u2019s cycling path is being expedited, with the paths forecasted to span around 800km by 2023, or two years ahead of original schedule.<br \/>\nAbout 750km of cycling paths were originally expected to be completed by 2025, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min on Thursday (5 March) during the Ministry of Transport\u2019s Committee of Supply debate.<br \/>\nLast year, Dr Lam announced that the authorities were planning to bring forward the cycling path network\u2019s expansion \u201cby a couple of years\u201d, following e-scooters ban on the footpaths in November.<br \/>\nRelated story:\u00a0Top 5 PMD-friendly places to live after the E-scooter Ban<br \/>\nAs part of the new Islandwide Cycling Network Programme, the government eyes to invest over $1 billion in the expansion of cycling paths in the next decade, said Dr Lam.<br \/>\nHe noted that all Housing Board towns are expected to have cycling paths by 2023.<br \/>\nCycling paths will be first built on towns that \u201ccurrently lack cycling paths or have many active mobility device users\u201d.<br \/>\nIn fact, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) identified 12 areas that presently have limited cycling path connectivity, which include Hougang, Bukit Batok and Marine Parade, reported CNA.<br \/>\n\u201cResidents across these towns will be able to look forward to better active mobility connectivity in the years to come,\u201d said the authority in a statement.<br \/>\nSections of cycling paths in towns like Tampines and Ang Mo Kio are expected to be completed this year, while the construction of cycling paths within Toa Payoh is also set to start.<br \/>\nWorks on intra-town cycling paths in Woodlands and Choa Chu Kang will begin in 2021, while new cycling paths in Queenstown and Geylang connecting current park connector networks (PCN) to the city centre are also expected to be completed.<br \/>\nLTA added that \u201cmore comprehensive cycling paths\u201d are set to be introduced in new HDB towns like Bidadari and Tengah.<br \/>\n\u201cBy 2026, Singapore\u2019s cycling path network will be expanded to 1,000km,\u201d said Dr Lam, adding that this will bring eight in 10 HDB households just \u201ca few minutes away\u201d from a cycling path network.<br \/>\nBy 2030, Singapore\u2019s cycling path network will span 1,320km, he said.<br \/>\nLooking for a property in Singapore?
