On an year-on-year basis, the city-state\u2019s economy climbed 0.1%.<br \/>\n\u201cAt this point in time, I don\u2019t think we are looking at a recession,\u201d he said at the Singapore International Energy Week conference.<br \/>\n\u201cBut we are of course cognisant of the larger forces moving in the world. But yet at the same time, we are quietly confident.\u201d<br \/>\nRELATED ARTICLE:\u00a0Private Home Prices, HDB Resale Prices Up In Q3 2019<br \/>\nSingapore has one of the world\u2019s highest trade-to-GDP ratios, making its economy highly sensitive to global business cycles and trade flows.<br \/>\nIn the next 10 to 15 years, the \u201cgreatest challenge\u201d would be whether the world moves into a \u201cmore fragmented global trading and production system\u201d or a more integrated course, said Chan.<br \/>\nChina and the US have been entangled in a trade dispute for over a year, with the two imposing tariffs on each other\u2019s goods \u2013 upending supply chains and affecting manufacturing activity across various countries.<br \/>\nOver in Singapore, both services-producing and goods-producing industries have been affected.<br \/>\nWith the two economic super powers unable to resolve key sticking points, the trade dispute moved to the tech space, with Chinese companies blacklisted by the US, while China reportedly plans to wean off American technology.<br \/>\n\u201cIf the world bifurcates or fragments \u2026 that would bring in a very different growth trajectory for the entire world,\u201d said Chan.<br \/>\nBut despite the disruptions, he believes the city-state can \u201cplay to our strengths\u201d, citing Singapore\u2019s pro-business environment, intellectual property protection and long-term stability.<br \/>\n\u201cI think those are the factors that we offer investors for their long term investment,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nLooking for a property in Singapore?
