\nOwners of HDB flats are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the fixtures and fittings within their units and can engage their preferred contractors to carry out the necessary work, said the Ministry of National Development in Parliament on Monday (5 August).
\nBut while HDB does not provide repair services to flat owners, it recognises that some owners, such as the less-mobile or elderly residents who live alone, may need extra help.
\nAs such, various avenues are available for these residents to seek help.
\n\u201cFor urgent assistance on maintenance matters, such as power trips that occur after office hours, residents can contact their Town Council\u2019s Essential Maintenance Service Unit (EMSU), who can provide advice over the phone or recommend an electrician that the flat owner can engage,\u201d said the ministry in responding to MP Saktiandi Supaat query.
\n\u201cHDB also provides general advice on home repair and maintenance, including referring residents to repair contractors that are listed on HDB\u2019s website.\u201d
\nFlat owners can also ask help from the community, which includes the Community Development Councils (CDCs) as well as the grassroots organisations, it added.
