{"id":109653,"date":"2019-08-05T13:24:16","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T06:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/singapore-river-bridges-the-padang-to-be-gazetted-as-national-monuments\/"},"modified":"2019-08-05T14:11:13","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T07:11:13","slug":"singapore-river-bridges-the-padang-to-be-gazetted-as-national-monuments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/singapore-river-bridges-the-padang-to-be-gazetted-as-national-monuments\/","title":{"rendered":"Singapore River Bridges, The Padang To Be Gazetted As National Monuments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#013;<br \/>\nThe National Heritage Board (NHB) intends to gazette the Singapore River Bridges and the Padang as national monuments, announced Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat on Saturday (3 August).<br \/>\nThe announcement was made to commemorate the city-state\u2019s \u201cbicentennial this year, in light of the significance that the Singapore River Bridges and the Padang have to our growth and development as a nation\u201d, said NHB in a release.<br \/>\nIt noted that the upcoming gazettes will accord the sites with \u201cthe highest level of preservation in view of their national significance\u201d.<br \/>\nThe Singapore River Bridges \u2013 comprising the Cavenagh, Anderson and Elgrin Bridges \u2013 are the three most architecturally impressive and historic bridges spanning the Singapore River.<br \/>\nAside from playing a vital role in Singapore\u2019s growth as a city and a trading port, the Singapore River Bridges also \u201crepresent the progression of engineering technology in bridge construction from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries\u201d.<br \/>\nOne of the oldest open spaces in Singapore for public recreation, the Padang, on the other hand, has been a commemorative space for people to gather and participate in key historic milestones of Singapore, said NHB.<br \/>\nIt has borne witness to key historic events such as the swearing-in of Yusof Ishak as head-of-state in 1959; announcement of the merger with Malaysia in 1963; and the first National Day Parade in 1966.<br \/>\nThe Padang is bordered by various national monuments like the Cenotaph, Tan Kim Seng fountain, Lim Bo Seng Memorial, former Supreme Court, Civilian War Memorial as well as Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Padang and the Singapore River Bridges have been pivotal to Singapore\u2019s early years,\u201d said NHB director of the preservation of sites and monuments division Jean Wee.<br \/>\n\u201cBoth these impending gazettes will contribute to the architectural and cultural diversity of our nation\u2019s built heritage, and together with our 72 other National Moshe added.<br \/>\nLooking to buy a Singapore home instead but not sure where to start?
