On May 7, the URA announced that Airbnb-style short-term accommodation will remain illegal in Singapore.<br \/>\nA property agent has been brought to court for allegedly renting out residential properties for illegal short-term accommodation, reported TodayOnline.<br \/>\nCharged on 14 May, Joel Su Jiqing of Propnex Realty faces six counts of illegally renting out homes for less than three months \u2013 the minimum length of stay allowed.<br \/>\nSu allegedly rented out the residential properties \u2013 namely, two condo units at the #1 Loft, a single-storey terrace home, a condo unit at D\u2019weave, a condo unit at Smart Suites and another condo unit at #1 Suites \u2013 between 12 October 2017 and 28 September 2018.<br \/>\nTo acquire customers, the 38-year old Singaporean put up listings on home sharing platforms such as Airbnb.<br \/>\nSu attended the hearing for his case at the State Courts on Tuesday (25 June). However, no plea was taken and the case was adjourned to 30 August.<br \/>\nSu is the fifth person to be charged in court for violation of the Urban Redevelopment Authority\u2019s rules on short-term rentals.<br \/>\nIf convicted, he could be fined up to $200,000 for each of the charges.<br \/>\nTwo property agents were fined $60,000 each last April for providing short-term accommodations at multiple units at D\u2019Leedon.<br \/>\nIn August 2018, a 35-year old condominium owner was fined $13,000 for renting out his unit along Flora Road for short-term stays multiple times.<br \/>\nA 34-year old man was also fined $70,000 this January for renting out multiple properties at Mackenzie Road and Petain Road within the Little India area for short-term stays.
