\nThose against would protest that it is a gross intrusion of privacy, but there are benefits in public disclosureShould all tax returns be available online? Most people\u2019s knee-jerk reaction is that it would be absolutely horrifying for everyone to see what you earn. It\u2019s an entirely private matter between you, your employer and the taxman. It would be a gross intrusion of privacy if it was made available to the public \u2013 and worse, to the newspapers.But these same arguments were used when we were first allowed to see sold house price data. It would be nothing less than a \u201csnoopers charter\u201d, argued some, with nosy curtain-twitchers checking out the silly price the neighbours paid for that dump next door. Continue reading…
