\nCommuters can save up to 10 minutes of travel time towards the city centre or Jurong East.\u00a0
\nThe new Canberra MRT station on the North-South Line (NSL) is set to open on 2 November, announced Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan during a site visit of the station on Monday (20 May).
\nSituated between Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations, Canberra station is the second station, after Dover on the East-West Line, to be built on existing MRT line.
\nIt will serve upcoming residential developments and existing public housing estates like EastLink I and II @ Canberra as well as Eastwave @ Canberra.
\n\u201cOver 17,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk of the new Canberra MRT station,\u201d noted the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
\n\u201cThis is expected to save nearby commuters up to 10 minutes in travel time towards the city centre or Jurong East.\u201d
\nSeveral analysts PropertyGuru spoke to believe that property prices around the Canberra area will increase over time.\u00a0
\n\u201cThe completion of Canberra MRT Station will be a boost to properties nearby, prices may see up to 5% increase subject to individual property characteristics\u201d, said Huttons\u00a0Asia head of research, Lee Sze Teck.\u00a0
\nChristine Sun from OrangeTee and Tie echoed the same sentiment.
\n\u201cThe new Canberra MRT station will enhance the convenience of residents in the vicinity, which helps to increase the attractiveness of the properties within the station\u2019s vicinity. However, prices may not rise immediately.\u201d
\nTo feature five entrances, Canberra station is the first elevated MRT station to offer commuters direct access to city-bound train platform through an elevated link bridge across Canberra Link.
\nThe new station will also have sheltered walkways to nearby bus stops, drop-off and pick-up points as well as over 500 bicycle parking lots.
