{"id":106811,"date":"2019-05-03T14:48:49","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T07:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/number-of-misused-private-addresses-cases-on-the-rise\/"},"modified":"2019-05-03T14:58:04","modified_gmt":"2019-05-03T07:58:04","slug":"number-of-misused-private-addresses-cases-on-the-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.siamlandbank.com\/propertynews\/property-news\/number-of-misused-private-addresses-cases-on-the-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"Number Of Misused Private Addresses Cases On The Rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#013;<br \/>\nThe Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has revealed that the number of reported cases of private addresses being falsely registered as home addresses of foreign workers have significantly increased to 489 over the past five months from less than 30 per year previously.<br \/>\nThe ministry\u2019s statement follows condo resident Ruzaidie Dar Surnik\u2019s Facebook post on his discovery that five individuals were registered under his residential address after using the Foreign Worker Tenant Enquiry Service (FWTES), reported Channel News Asia.<br \/>\n\u201cI was confused because I didn\u2019t rent out my house or room to anybody,\u201d he said. \u201cI was also shocked because these people could use others\u2019 residential addresses anyhow.\u201d<br \/>\nSEE ALSO:\u00a0MOM Calls On Housing Standards For Foreign Workers To Be Raised<br \/>\nOf the complaints made to their office, MOM said they have fined 19 employers as at 24 April and revoked the work permits of 13 workers.<br \/>\nThe ministry has also advised the home owners to \u201crectify their residential records and block their addresses to prevent further misuse\u201d.<br \/>\nMOM noted that some of the employers deliberately provided false addresses in order to circumvent housing requirements as they have housed their workers at unapproved factory premises or overcrowded units.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, some of the workers who had sourced for their own accommodation deliberately entered false addresses as they are living in overcrowded units.<br \/>\nSEE ALSO:\u00a0Firm Taken To Court For Housing 21 Foreign Workers In Overcrowded Conditions<br \/>\nMinority of the cases involved \u201cgenuine administrative errors\u201d by employers when registering the addresses, such as keying in the wrong unit number.<br \/>\nLaunched in December 2018, FWTES allow home owners who have rented out their units to easily check the names of foreign workers residing at their addresses. It also enables them to remove the names of workers who have already moved out.<br \/>\nMOM conducts regular inspections in order to ensure the accuracy of residential addresses declared by employers.<br \/>\n\u201cThrough these inspections, MOM detected that private homes\u2019 addresses were being used to register as foreign workers\u2019 residential addresses without the home owner\u2019s knowledge,\u201d said the ministry.<br \/>\nFiona Ho, Digital Content Manager at PropertyGuru, edited this story.
