\nThe Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Ministry of National Development (MND) have called on members of the public to share their ideas and suggestions for facilities and activities that they would like to see at NS Square.
\nIn 2007, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced plans to redevelop The Float @ Marina Bay into a permanent structure and renamed NS Square.

\nThis comes as the Float @ Marina Bay was built as a temporary stage in 2007, with several limitations to its existing structures which are not designed for long-term use.
\n\u201cIn redeveloping the platform and the seating gallery, the intent is to transform the venue into a vibrant events and entertainment space where the public can enjoy arts, culture, and sports activities at the waterfront all year round,\u201d said MINDEF and MND in a joint statement.
\n\u201cThe redevelopment will also improve pedestrian connectivity and provide a continuous loop around Marina Bay.\u201d
\nWith this, an expression of interest (EOI) for the redevelopment of the floating structure will be launched by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) sometime this quarter.
\nA Request for Proposals (RFP) for the design and development of the gallery will also be launched by DSTA.
\n\u201cParties with experience in projects of similar nature and scale are welcome to participate in the EOI,\u201d said the statement.
\nInterested tenderers will have to \u201cform multi-disciplinary consultant teams to provide full professional consultancy services comprising architectural, civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, quantity surveying, security design, seating gallery design and exhibition gallery design for the redevelopment works, and to submit their design proposals for the NS Square\u201d.
\nMembers of the public can view the selected designs for the new NS Square development at a public exhibition to be held in 2020.
